The Asturian beach of San Antonio de Mar, chosen the best in Spain

The Asturian beach of San Antonio de Mar, chosen the best in Spain

Condé Nast Traveler readers have chosen this cove in Llanes in the first place

Spanish beaches are a paradise. Be it those of the north, the south or the islands, our beaches welcome millions of tourists every year and although this summer, marked by the coronavirus crisis, few foreigners have been able to travel to Spain, the truth is that tourism interior has partially filled that void. But which is the best beach in Spain? It is surely difficult to reach an agreement but the readers of Condé Nast Traveler have chosen what they consider to be the “Best beaches in Spain”.

San Antonio de Mar, the winner

The Asturian cove of San Antonio de Mar, integrated in the Protected Landscape of the Eastern Coast of Asturias, has been the winner this 2020. Located on the coastal strip of Llanes, this small sandy area, about 70 meters long and about 50 meters from width, is separated from the beach of Cuevas del Mar by Punta San Antonio and is characterized by its white sand and moderate waves.

This natural beach, shaped like a shell and protected by cliffs, has gained a considerable influx in recent years from users fleeing from the high occupancy that the neighboring beach of Cuevas del Mar also registers.

Access can be done on foot from Cuevas de Mar. You can also get there by car from Nueva de Llanes, but it is necessary to walk the last few meters. San Antonio de Mar is a wild cove without equipment and services.
