The new longest cable car in the world: nine kilometers

The Gold Gondola Zlatibor, in a Serbian ski resort, replaces a 7.4 km gondola in the Zhangjiajie National Park in China.

On January 14, with few masks among the participants, the new longest cable car in the world was inaugurated: Gold Gondola Zlatibor , in Serbia. Any other year would have been a small event in the world of skiing, but this time it has tiptoed past, despite how spectacular the trip promises.

The cabins transfer skiers from Zlatibor to Tornik station - at an altitude of 1,496 m - on a 26-minute journey between the White Mountains, with a stop by Lake Ribničko, where the development of an urban project is planned.

Until now, the longest gondola of this type in the world was the Tianmen Shan, at 7.4 km, in the Zhangjiajie National Park (the place where James Cameron was inspired for the film "Avatar"), in China . In the same area is the highest outdoor elevator in the world .

The new mill has 36 cabins that can transport 600 passengers (1,200 per hour).

During the opening ceremony, local authorities recalled that the Tornik Mountain Ski Resort was bombed in 1999, during Western military operations aimed at ending the Kosovo war. In 2004 the complex began to be recovered, works that somehow closed this year with the inauguration of the cable car, key - it is thought - in the tourist development of this area.
