This is the ice hotel, with suites created by artists, which is reborn every year in Sweden
On December 11, the doors of the Icehotel, in Sweden, were opened, a combination of accommodation and ephemeral art that celebrates its 31st edition
In the 2020-2021 edition, 35 artists have worked , who have created sculptures to escape from reality in such a difficult year, as explained by Luca Roncoroni, creative director of the company. Visitors will pass through a frozen forest , a suite dedicated to toys ("Toybox"), and a third built like a sauna , the coldest. Of course, those who prefer the hot sauna of a lifetime will have it in a private relaxation room set up at Icehotel 365.
New this year is that all suites are equipped with a QR code that can be scanned to listen to an audio guide that tells the story of each art project .
In addition to the artsy experience, guests can also look forward to some action with outdoor experiences such as snowmobiling adventures under the Northern Lights and dog sled rides, or enjoying world-class cuisine, a drink at the bar or become artists while sculpting in ice.
Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi opened its doors in 1989. Besides being a hotel, it is also an art exhibition, with original works on ice and snow, which change from season to season. Every winter, a new version of Icehotel is created entirely from the ice of the Torne River , one of Sweden's national heritage rivers, which is protected from hydroelectric development. When the winter season's ice and snow hotel has melted and returned to the river in spring, part of the hotel remains, a place where visitors can enjoy ice and snow experiences all year round.
